Tales from the ER...

You know, the more things change, the more they seemingly stay the same!

Nick seldom does anything easy, or halfway. He recently discovered a creative way to end up in the ER... FOR 8 FREAKING HOURS NO LESS!

No, I'm not particularly bitter, but I miss the old insurance from Memphis! So, here's the skinny...

At Caroline's SVPS Carnival (see related post), Nick strained his right groin muscle, maybe by making those sno-cones. We still don't really know how. Anyway, we were on the navy base shopping with Grammy the next day, and I started hurting in the middle of the thigh, in addition to the groin. Didn't think much of it, except that it was weird and that I must have been compensating. I helped coach Nicholas' baseball game the next day, and attended a wedding of former band members that afternoon. At this point, walking was difficult, and my knee was very painful and tender to the touch.

Fast forward to reading in bed that night...Karen looked over and spotted a long red streak from Nick's upper thigh past his knee, and she could hardly look at his knee without him wiggling in pain. Off we go to the ER for a doppler ultrasound, to make sure I didn't have a clot in my leg. It was 2:15 AM...

Becca (heroine for the day, again) came over to the house to sit with the kids, while Karen and I went to the ER. I finally got to leave at about 10:45 later that morning,
having received 2 bags of Vancamyacin, and an 8-day course of Clindamyacin (pardon the spellings). But how did I get such a rip-roaring infection in a leg with no scratches, cuts, or any other signs? Stay tuned...

Becca had taken the kids to her parent's house in Millington for the day. Needless to say, they were in great hands - here's a slideshow with their fun & games at Becca's parents' house...

After a follow-up appointment with my doctor this week, I learned that when I strained my groin it bled, and that blood gradually trickled down inside my leg and pooled at the knee. At that point, it became infected.

Yep...nothing halfway...
